Alliance of strategic partners triggers the better last mile corridor connectivity in Gdynia
TENTacle project partners City of Gdynia and Port of Gdynia Authority signed (2017 August 31) a declaration of intent with Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways which removes a key administrative bottleneck to fully develop the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor (BAC) in its gateway stretch in Gdynia. The agreement paves the way to upgrading all last mile links of the BAC within the city limits and in the seaport area to the national road status and thus opens much broader investment funding opportunities. It is expected that the Government will confirm this status accordingly.
Coined under the common name of Via Maris, the last mile links will connect the BAC with the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor via the Baltic-Link Motorway of the Sea Gdynia - Karlskrona.
The newly formed strategic alliance between the three parties will also push for other investments specified in the BAC Work Plan which are key to efficient port operations in the long-term perspective and to greening of corridor flows. It will facilitate the ongoing construction of the public railway terminal Gdynia-Port and the improvement of rail connection to Maritime Port of Gdynia (electrification and second track on the Gdynia-Bydgoszcz railway line) as well as enable some new projects as exemplified by the construction of public ferry terminal in Gdynia Port (start date: autumn 2017), and the new infrastructure in the extended port area.
The planned projects are set for completion till 2023.
